China wishes of France to stand against NATO’s involvement

(MENAFN) China’s top diplomat, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, conveyed his hope that France would stand against NATO’s involvement in the Asia-Pacific region during a phone conversation with his French counterpart, Jean-Noel Barrot.

Wang expressed the expectation that Paris would “take the right position and oppose NATO's interference in Asia-Pacific affairs,” according to an official summary released after their talks on Friday.

He also called for collaborative efforts to “uphold multilateralism, safeguard free trade, and oppose unilateral and bullying practices.”

Highlighting China’s regard for France’s adherence to the one-China policy, Wang stated that China “attaches importance to France's commitment” and trusts that it “will put this commitment into practice.”

Wang further distinguished the Ukraine situation from the “Taiwan question,” describing them as “fundamentally different.”

In response, Barrot voiced opposition to “trade wars and tariff wars,” noting France’s willingness “to continue to properly resolve economic and trade frictions through consultation.”

Barrot affirmed that France “always regards China as a friend and partner, firmly pursues the one-China policy, and looks forward to maintaining high-level exchanges and close strategic communication with China.”
