N. Korea hackers carry out cyberattack on S. Korea using

(MENAFN) On Monday, a S. Korean security institute stated a cybercriminal gang purportedly connected to N. Korea has made a cyber-assault on S. Korean organizations, as well as a military-affiliated organization, using deepfake images created by (AI).

The Kimsuky hacking group, which Seoul believes operates with backing from the North Korean government, attempted a spear-phishing attack on a defense-related institution in July, according to a report from the Genians Security Center cited by a news agency.

The deceitful act of sending emails from reliable sources to get sensitive data is called phishing attack.

The GSC report stated that the hackers sent an email carrying a harmful software, masked as an email about credential issuance for army-linked officials.

It was assumed that the identity card picture that was used in the attack to have been developed by AI generator.

AI platforms, like ChatGPT for example, refuse demands to create copies of army IDs, citing that official identification are protected by the law.
