Russia Supports Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize Nomination

(MENAFN) Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yury Ushakov announced on Friday that Russia is open to endorsing a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for U.S. President Donald Trump.

When questioned about the matter, Ushakov stated that Moscow “would probably support it at this point, if requested.”

His remarks suggest a conditional willingness by the Russian government to back Trump’s candidacy for the prestigious award.

Ushakov also condemned a reported proposition from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who allegedly suggested endorsing Trump’s Nobel bid in return for Tomahawk cruise missiles.

He described this proposal as “monstrous,” criticizing the transactional nature of such a deal and implying it was ethically questionable.

President Trump has frequently argued that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his involvement in resolving various international disputes since assuming office in January.

In his recent remarks, Trump drew a comparison between himself and former U.S. President Barack Obama, who was granted the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009 for his “efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

Trump asserted that his own election held greater significance, claiming Obama received the award “for doing nothing.”

Obama’s 2009 Nobel recognition was largely perceived as a symbolic repudiation of the interventionist approach of his Republican forerunner, George W. Bush, particularly in relation to the 2003 Iraq invasion.

The contrast between the two presidents remains a point of contention in ongoing political discourse.

Several world leaders have voiced their backing of Trump’s Nobel ambitions. Among them are Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, and Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, all of whom have publicly supported the idea of awarding Trump the peace prize.
