Japanese PM Takaichi to Meet Trump in Washington Amid Global Tensions
Takaichi is scheduled to depart on Wednesday for her first official trip to Washington since assuming office last year. She is expected to hold a summit with Trump on Thursday.
The discussions are anticipated to cover regional issues in East Asia as well as developments in the Middle East, including the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
Speaking to parliament on Friday, Takaichi said she plans to communicate Tokyo’s stance to Trump amid rising global instability. She noted that the Japanese government finds it challenging to make a legal assessment of recent US-Israeli military actions in Iran, while urging the rapid de-escalation of hostilities.
The summit is also expected to address broader issues such as economic security and promoting increased Japanese investment under a bilateral trade framework.
